Divorce is a socially and legally recognized dissolution of marriage.

Rise in divorce rate has been universal but not  uniform. It has increased at different rates in different countries, cultures, religions etc.  

Highest  divorce rates upto 46%  have been found in developed countries  like US, Canada and Europe etc  which are at downward trend.

Lowest  divorce rates  @ 1.3% have been found  in developing  countries like India which are on upward trend.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT FOR NATIONS THAT HAVE HIGHER RATES OF DIVORCE

  • They have a higher level of economic development. 
  • More of their women are in the workforce.
  • They are more highly educated.
  • They are more likely to be part of international organizations and treaties.

WHY DIVORCE RATE IS RISING IN INDIA?

Reasons for rise in divorce rate are of two types;

1. Non-Manageable Reasons

  • Socio-economic development,
  • Education of  boys  and girls
  • Women joining workforce etc.
  • Financial independence of youngsters.
  • World level exposure to educated boys and girls.
  • Replacement of joint family with nuclear family.

2. Manageable Reasons

  • Lack of Compatibility between husband and wife.
  • Lack of Similarities between husband and wife and their families.
  • Concealment/fabrication of information in Biodatas.
  • Discovery of some serious ailment in husband or wife immediately after marriage.
  • Lack of education  on Life, Self, Marriage, Family, Society and Nature.
  • Illogiocal/superstitious practices of Match Selection.
  • Absence  of will to learn and upgrade themselves with the changing environment.
